Welcome to the Children's Emergency Department Oral & Inhaled Medication Management Workbook. This workbook forms part 1 of a 2 part assessment, once the workbook is completed fully including the knowledge quiz you will need to complete part 2 which is an observational competency in practice to be fully signed of a competent. To ensure as a learner you are not needing to complete several different workbooks and competency frameworks, this workbook will include general medication management, single sign management and patient group directives and protocols, when you move in to part 2 of the assessment process you will need to complete 2 different competency frameworks, 1st being the overall use of oral medication and safety around single signing, 2nd the safe use of patient group directives and protocols. Once you have submitted this workbook and have had confirmation that you have passed, you will be sent the competency frameworks to complete, this is a 3 step process where you will be able to get signed off by any member of staff who is deemed competent (Initial and second assessment) followed by a final assessment that can only be completed by a member of the clinical facilitator team, band 7 or band 8. Until you have completed your final sign off and been deemed competent you will need to have all oral medication second checked and signed for on EPMA (electronic drug chart) (This workbook was created on June 2025 and will need review June 2028, Creator Tony Newman, Children's Emergency Care Matron & Lead for Children's Emergency Care Education)
